After waiting for a sequel to continue the path of Rockman 8 and Rockman & Forte (which is marked Rockman 8.5 in the source code), this game has finally been announce as part of the chronological plot of the Original Rockman series. Rockman 9 is shown to be a faithful reproduction of the Famicom/NES style gameplay of yesteryears.
"Mega Man 9" Glorious Trailer:
The player will show in this paragraph
The story is as standard as any of the previous Rockman games, but with a twist. Robots are on a rampage, and Wily is coming back, but this time around, he states that the robot attacks are caused by Dr. Right, Rockman's own creator. Now Rockman has to prove his creator's innocence by defeating the new robot masters and finding the real truth behind the cause.
These are the new Robot Master threats that Rockman is facing:
Magma Man
Galaxy Man
Jewel Man
Concrete Man
Hornet Man
Plug Man
Tornado Man
Splash Woman
The game will be created by Inti Creates, who gave us Rockman ZERO and Rockman ZX series, as well as Rockman EXE Battle Chip GP on the GBA. Their experience with the 8bit formula has been proven in the mini-game Rockman Antique that's unlockable in Rockman ZX Advent. Inafune also revealed that while there aren't any new mechanical devices for Rockman to use to progress in the game, his trusted canine companion Rush will return, thus making sure that memorable classic characters are returning in the same fashion.
The game is brought up in 8bit style, because fans are most acquainted to that style since the birth of Rockman more than 20 years ago. Since fans has been playing the first games in the series an unlimited amount of time, and portraying his classic style in both fan productions on the internet and T-shirt decorations, it feels just right to bring the revival of our classic Blue Bomber back in a style that's most familiar to everyone. Being able to test the limits of 8bit graphics on a current generation home console looks like a fun idea to pick up on.
The music is styled in 8bit fashion too, not to mention cutscenes in the same way they are experienced in the past Rockman games. Pure 8bit goodness. Inafune is also mentioning that, with Rockman 2 being the most favorite title of all time, he hopes that Rockman 9 will surpass that, and hopefully be able to keep bringing Rockman back to his roots with more sequels in this fashion.
Inafune's final statement is this: "The moment you've been waiting for is here! We're not just giving you Rockman 9, we're giving you a new Famicom/NES game. This is a game that brings back the fun of the old games, and I hope you all enjoy it!"
